Here’s an update on my Obi110 with Google Voice project. We have been using this $50 box with the free Google Voice service for several weeks now and it is working great. In fact, it is working much better than the VOIP provider I had been paying $25/month for several years. I added enhanced 911 service for $1.50 through Callcentric. For a one-time investment of $50 and $18/year, I now have unlimited local and long distance and a great connection that sounds as good as a land line.
Last week I found the gadget I have wanted for a long time. The Obi110 by Obihai is a Voice Over IP (VOIP) adapter box that connects your wired or cordless home phone to paid and even free Internet-based phone services.
I have used Vonage, SunRocket, and BroadVoice for VOIP service over the last 10 years. The price has ranged from $99 per year to nearly $30 per month. This is still half of what I would pay for traditional phone service. But, free is much more appealing.
This is how it works:
- Buy the box. Feel free to click the “Buy from Amazon” button to the right.
- Sign up for a Free Google Voice account.
- Follow the Obi110 Instructions.
I have only had my Obi110 for a few days, but I am very pleased, so far. The sound quality is better than through my current provider with no delay or echo.
Did I mention, the service is FREE, at least through the end of 2012. After that, who knows what Google with offer? But, even if they decide to charge 2 cents per minute, just for the minutes you use, that’s a wonderful deal for a land line.

Ok, I just found this post is still a draft, from February 27, 2010! Oh well, I still think it’s funny…
Wow, that’s a lot of snow in my yard! We live in Webster, NY and we have received a tremendous amount of snow during the last week. I am from NY and I am used to a lot of snow, but this is crazy.

I am always on the lookout for great Bible software. For years I used e-Sword on my Windows Mobile 5 PDA. On my Droid, I used Cadre Bible for several months. A few weeks ago, I found an excellent web-based Bible with tons of options and utilities. It’s called You Version, at www.youversion.com.
My favorite feature so far is reading plans. You can choose from Chronological and Chronological for the complete Bible, as well as many other choices. I started a reading plan a couple weeks ago intending to read through the entire Bible in a year. I got off track and thought all hope was lost until I found the reading plan calendar tonight. I was able to change the start date of the plan to get back on track. I might not complete the Bible in exactly one year, but I will be able to be more consistent with my reading.
Other features include many translations in English and other languages, parallel views of multiple translations, highlighting, tagging, journal, and audio Bibles. Check it out!
Wow, life has been challenging for several weeks now. I’m still here!
The new WordPress app is available in the Android Markplace. It looks really slick.
I was reading Mashable this afternoon and found a post on HootSuite. It’s so good, I think it should be called HootSweet. It’s like TweetDeck, but it’s web-based. I am a big fan of web-based applications, such as Meebo for IM and NetVibes for organizing all of the sites and feeds I follow. Within a few minutes, I was able to set up a tab with three columns to track updates on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Instead of logging in to three sites, I have one to watch now and I can do it from any computer I use without having to install anything.
Not only can I watch feed updates, I can also post my own updates. Just select the social networks you want to post to, enter the text, and click the button. This way, I can easily update all three sites with the same status. I can also schedule status updates at future times. The only thing is it doesn’t let you see a list of pending updates and there is no way to cancel once you have submitted a scheduled update.
All in all, not bad for a fairly new site.
My two year old daughter hasn’t been sleeping much lately. For weeks and weeks she has been difficult to put to bed at night, wakes up multiple times during the night, and gets up at 6am. I am not a morning person, so this has been really difficult. Last night she went right to bed. She woke up once and was easy to lay back down. And…she let us sleep until 7:15.
I can’t remember a day for the last two months that I have felt this tired. What’s up with that?
Here’s a bit of humor for the day:

I just love food made with trousers!
